Whether you're a rider or skier, falls are part of the sport. You get up, your riding helmet or ski helmet looks intact—no cracks, no damage. The temptation is strong: "It held up, I can keep using it."
Yet a helmet that absorbed an impact—even without visible damage—must be replaced. Here's why.
A single-use shield
During a fall, an Aurak helmet acts like a true bumper: it takes the impact's violence for you.
Our helmets feature a dual-layer design:
- An outer ABS shell, 2-2.5mm thick, ultra-rigid, spreads impact force across a wide surface
- Inside, an EPS liner (expanded polystyrene) compresses to absorb shock energy and protect your head
This foam acts as an energy cushion. Once crushed, it never regains its original shape—like a car's bumper after a crash. The helmet fulfilled its mission but can't provide the same protection next time.
Invisible damage, very real consequences
Even if the exterior looks perfect, internal damage can be significant.
Picture an egg dropped on the floor: shell intact, but yolk cracked inside.
Likewise, invisible micro-cracks can weaken the helmet's internal structure. During the next impact, it won't absorb energy properly.
For riders: Enhanced protection where it counts
Aurak riding helmets feature exclusive innovation: the guilloché steel occipital reinforcement plate.
Inspired by motorcycle helmets, it specifically strengthens the skull base (occipital bone)—a particularly vulnerable area during rearward falls.
This extra protection acts as discreet armor, absorbing and deflecting part of the impact force for superior safety.
(This reinforcement technology is exclusive to Aurak riding helmets.)
When must you replace your helmet?
Replace immediately if:
- Any fall, even minor
- Direct impact on hard surface
- Helmet dropped alone from significant height
- Age > 3-5 years (natural material degradation)

When in doubt, contact a professional or your helmet manufacturer for expert advice. At Aurak, your safety is our absolute priority.
A helmet that saved you did its job. Like a bumper after a crash, it deserves retirement.
A compromised helmet = head at risk.
